Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), which is
funded by the USDA, reimburses child care providers for a portion of the
cost of day care meals.
The Child Care Resource Center is just one sponsor that
makes the CACFP available to day care homes in Lorain, Erie, Huron, Seneca,
and Sandusky Counties in Ohio.
THE BEST REASONS TO JOIN:
- You receive a monthly cash reimbursement for a portion
of the meals you provide. This could also include meals you serve your
own children while you are doing child care. The average reimbursement
is $265.00 per month for a child care provider caring for 4 children.
- All necessary papers and forms are supplied to you by
the CCRC.
- You receive continuous guidance and training in nutritional
standards.
Also, there is an endless amount of resources available regarding
recipes and activities. The CCRC Resource Library contains books and articles
on feeding children, food-related activities and games, and nutrition.
- The qualified CACFP Consultants are only a phone call
away to answer any questions or help you solve any problems you may have.
- Additional resources are available to help you be a child
care professional. You can obtain information on financial record keeping,
taxes, business management, and many more topics related to your child
care business.
- The CACFP Consultants will also visit your home and assist
you on a one-on-one basis. Or if you prefer, the CACFP connects you to
a larger network of organizations and support groups.
APPLYING FOR THE CACFP IS EASY!
Call the Child Care Resource Center and a representative
will arrange a home visit with you. The consultant will explain that you
and your home must pass some simple inspections, forms need to be filled
out, and after the application is approved by the Ohio Dept of Education,
you will be ready to begin participation in the CACFP. The process takes
about 2 weeks and is well worth the effort!
If you are already certified by the Dept of Jobs & Family Services
to do child care or hold a Certificate to Board Children from a foster
agency your process is very simple and takes about 1 week to begin claiming
meals for reimbursement.
For more information about the CACFP, call the CCRC office
at 1-800-526-5268, or visit the U.S. Department of Agriculture web site.
- A provider's participation in the CACFP does not affect
any other government subsidy, such as food stamps.
- The Child and Adult Care Food Program is available to
all eligible children and adults regardless or race, color, national origin,
sex, age, or handicap. Any person who believes that he/she has been discriminated
against in any USDA activity should write immediately to "The Secretary
of Agriculture, Washington D.C., 20250.
