Child Care In-service Training Requirements
Ohio Department of Human Services (ODHS) In-service Training Regulations: For specific guidelines, see Sections 101:2-12-30, 5101:2-12-31 & 5101:2-12-32 of the ODHS Child Day Care Center Licensing Rules.
Each child care staff member must complete 15 hours annually of in-service training in child development or early childhood education until 45 hours have been completed or he/she can provide proof of an associate or higher degree in child development or early childhood education or a pre-k associate certificate or child development associate credential. An administrator who functions as a child care staff member must meet this requirement as well.
Each child care center must have on premises and readily available at all times at least one staff person with 6 hours of training in each: First Aid; Prevention, Recognition & Management of Communicable Diseases; and Child Abuse Prevention & Recognition. An administrator who functions as a child care staff member must meet this requirement as well. For every 75 children, there must be at least one staff member trained in First Aid and Communicable Diseases. A three hour review class for these health/safety training must be completed every three years.

Child Care Training Regulations:
OSHA requires employers to protect staff whose jobs are "responsibly anticipated to result in contact with
blood or other potentially infectious materials." Caregivers who are expected to provide first aid are covered bye this OSHA standard. As part of this requirement, child care administrators and staff are mandated to receive training on Blood-borne Pathogens.
